Yamaha has registered a new trademark in India under the name of 'Tracer'. Now, Yamaha sells the Tracer 700 and the Tracer 9 in global markets. Both Tracer models are tall sport-touring motorcycles, primarily meant for riding long distances on tarmac. The 2020 Yamaha Tracer 9 and Tracer 9 GT gets an 890 cc three-cylinder engine which is liquid-cooled and it makes 117 bhp along with 93 Nm of peak torque. Similarly, the Tracer 700 gets a 689 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor that makes 74 bhp and 68 Nm. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has a rather lovely repertoire of premium motorcycles on sale globally. But the company is more focussed on selling mass-market two-wheelers in India.

Which is why, it could also be possible that Yamaha introduces a completely new, India-specific Tracer motorcycle, which may be based on a model that is already on sale in India, maybe the FZ25 or the MT-15. After all, low displacement adventure motorcycles are beginning to gain a lot of traction in India and maybe Yamaha would like to cash in on it as well. Apart from the fact that Yamaha did actually register the 'Tracer' trademark in India, there is no clarity on what kind of a motorcycle will the company launch in India? Of course, the Tracer may never see the light of the day in India or be used for a completely different model as well.

Yamaha has used international brands such as Fazer and FZ to launch India-specific models and a Tracer 250 does sound like something that would be lapped up by young enthusiasts.
