Volkswagen has partnered with Lucasfilm designers to reveal two one-off ID Buzz inspired from the recently released Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The collaboration took two ID Buzz vans – one a passenger vehicle, the other a cargo variant – and dressed them up to preview the two sides of the ‘Force'. The passenger van is finished in light tones of blue and white and is unsurprisingly called the “Light Side Edition” while the cargo variant is decked up in the black and red colours that Star Wars fans will associate with the dark side of the force. The Cargo van is aptly called the Dark Side Edition.
“Using special adhesive films on the body of the ID. Buzz vehicles, the designers created skins that convey the two sides, drawing specific inspiration from Ob-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader”, VW said in a statement.

Starting with the “Light Side Edition” it is finished in a beige paint shade as a call-up to the tunic colours worn by the series protagonist Obi-Wan Kenobi with the blue highlights on the side and the windows a reflection of his light sabre. The rear quarter windows bear the insignia of the Jedi while the ID Buzz branding on the rear is stencilled in ‘Aurebesh' – the transcribed language for the galaxy's Galactic Basic. The one-off edition sits on 21-inch wheels with red centre caps also housing the Jedi Crest.

The “Dark Side Edition” meanwhile is clearly a call-up to the colours of the Galactic Empire and the Sith. The whole ID Buzz Cargo is draped in a mix of shiny and matt black paint with red highlights along the beltline and red-finished windows. The wheels too are a mix of black and red with red underbody lighting featuring as well. Like of the “Light Side Edition” this one-off edition features the insignia of the Sith on the rear quarter window panels and on the wheel centre caps.
The "Dark Side Edition" is based on the Cargo model and features the Sith Empire logo on the side in red.
“The themes of good and evil, light and dark aren't necessarily concepts we apply to cars. The ID. Buzz collaboration offered an unique opportunity to have the cars become graphic reflections of two iconic characters,” says Doug Chaing, Lucasfilm VP and Executive Creative Director.
VW has not revealed any changes to the two ID Buzz outside of the cosmetics.
Volkswagen revealed the new ID Buzz earlier this year with the model due to go on sale in global markets in the coming months. Based on VW's MEB EV architecture, the Id Buzz packs in a 77 kWh battery pack paired with a 201 bhp electric motor driving the rear wheels. In terms of design, the ID Buzz draws on the styling of the iconic first-generation 1950s Volkswagen Type 2 or the Microbus as its also known.
