Top Imported Bikes In India
Key Highlights
  • The premium motorcycle segment has a host of offerings in India today
  • From Japanese to Europeans and American bike makers have set shop here
  • More global bike manufacturers are eyeing India, given the potential
In the past couple of years, the India motorcycle market has considerable growth in the high-end segment. A number of international brands like Ducati, MV Agusta, and Aprilia have found their way to our shores, offering some of the best motorcycles from their line-up. With increasing demand for high-powered performance motorcycles, these manufacturers are getting bolder and are bringing in newer bikes via the CBU (completely built up) route. And even buyers are not shying away from such high premium products. With more and more new products launching almost every month, here are some of the top imported bike sold in India.

1. Triumph Street Triple

Triumph has been offering some of the best motorcycles in the country and the Street Triple is definitely one of them. The younger brother to the meaner and more power Speed Triple, the Triumph Street Triple is a bike that checks almost all the boxes when it comes to performance motorcycles. Still carrying its classic street fighter look, the bikes come with Triumph's signature bug-eyed twin headlamps, a well-chiselled tank, and a Daytona-sourced chassis that imparts some great amount of confidence in the rider. Powering this nimble beast is a 675cc, inline three-cylinder engine that is capable of churning out a maximum of 78bhp and a peak torque of 57.3Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

2. Kawasaki H2

Among most of the performance and superbike brands, Kawasaki has a better hold of the Indian sports bike and superbike market. The Japanese two-wheeler giant probably has one of the largest footprints in the imported bikes category, and its most desirable offering in the litre-class space is the new Kawasaki H2. Kawasaki has invested a lot in the technology to develop this bike and that is quite evident from the bike's lightweight construction, carbon fibre parts, newly designed trellis frame, aggressive styling and much more. The Kawasaki H2 comes equipped with a 998cc, liquid cooled, 4-stroke, in-line four-cylinder supercharged engine. The engine punches out a hefty 197bhp and develops 133.5 Nm of torque. The Ninja H2 will be offered with an option of Ram Air that hikes the power output to 207bhp. All that power helps it go past the 100km/h mark in 2.5 seconds which makes it the fastest bike in India.

3. BMW S1000RR

Even though the high-end motorcycle space is largely ruled by the Japanese in the Indian market, there are brands that cater to a completely different breed of enthusiast. And BMW S1000RR has helped the Bavaria-based motorcycle manufacturer to become one of those special brands in the country. Probably one of the most popular litre-class bikes from BMW Motorrad, the S1000RR has a small yet strong niche in the Indian motorcycle space. Factors that have favoured its popularity include - its excellent built quality, aggressive styling and German engineering among others. The bike comes mated to a 999cc inline four-cylinder engine that belts out 195.2bhp and a peak torque of 113Nm, while mated to 6-speed gearbox.

4. MV Agusta F4

The latest contingent in the Indian sports bike and superbike space, MV Agusta, began its local operations in the country earlier this year with three new bikes. And the F4 is currently in flagship motorcycle in India. Practically the most expensive production bike in the country in the current scenario, the MV Agusta F4 is offered in three trims - the standard F4, the race-spec F4 RR and the limited edition F4 RC. While the standard variant is priced at Rs. 26.87 lakh to top-of-the-line F4 RC variant is priced at Rs. 50 lakh (all ex-showroom, Pune). As for the powertrain of the MV Agusta F4, the litre-class performer comes mated to a 998cc, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine delivering a maximum of 195bhp and a peak torque of 111Nm.

5. Harley-Davidson Fat Boy

When it comes to the high-powered performance motorcycles one can never miss the name of Harley-Davidson and when we talk about its most popular bike imported to India it has to be the Fat Boy. This behemoth of a motorcycle has been aiding to keep the American cruiser bike manufacturer's brand value high in every country that Harley-Davidson caters to, and India is no exception to it either. Launched in 2009, in its current iteration, the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy is powered by a 1,690cc V-twin engine that comes with electronic sequential port fuel injection (ESPFI) the enable the motor to develop a peak torque of 133Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

6. Indian Roadmaster

The latest offering from the iconic American motorcycle manufacturer in India, the Indian Roadmaster is currently also the company's flagship bike in the country. One of the heaviest production motorcycles from the two-wheeler maker, the Indian Roadmaster tips the scale at 425kg. Along with the host of creature comfort offered with the bike you also get a range of smart electronics and equipment that makes the Roadmaster the ideal tourer. Some of its equipment include electrically adjustable windscreen to 10-level heated palm grips, heated seats and a 200-watt audio system which has radio and can be used to play your favourite music via USB or Bluetooth. Powering this massive beast is a 1,811cc V-Twin engine that develops a peak torque of 138Nm available at just 2,600rpm, mated to 6-speed gearbox.

7. Yamaha MT-09

Yamaha sure gave a sweet surprise to its fans in India at the 2016 Auto Expo this year, when the company launched the all-new MT-09 bike. Introduced by actor and biking enthusiast, John Abraham, the MT-09 is the first bike from the MT range to come to India. Staying true to its naked street fighter nature, the new Yamaha MT-09 comes is compact, nimble and powerful. Yamaha has equipped the bike with features like - a compact aluminium chassis, Traction Control System (TCS) and upright riding position. Powering the motorcycle is an 847cc 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valves engine that makes 113bhp at 10,000rpm and develops 87.5Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm.

Price: Rs. 10.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

8. Ducati Diavel

One has to agree that Ducati has given some of its bikes the most badass names possible and at the top of that list is the Ducati Diavel, meaning 'The Devil.' While essentially it is a tourer, Ducati doesn't really like to categorise the bike as one. In a bid to keep that segmentation at bay, the Italian manufacturer has put in all its efforts to make the Diavel as much a sports bike as possible. The bike is powered by a 1200cc L-Twin engine that is capable of churning out 160bhp and develops a peak torque of 130.5Nm, while mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
