No Longer Kratos, New Bajaj Bike To Roll Out As Dominar
It's turning into a long journey for the new touring sports bike from Bajaj. It is now confirmed that the previously christened Kratos 400 will now be launched under the Dominar brand.
The Dominar 400 will go on sale in mid-December this year
It is expected to be priced between Rs.1.5-1.8 lakh

It's turning into a long journey for the new touring sports bike from Bajaj. It is now confirmed that the previously christened Kratos 400 will now be launched under the Dominar brand. While the bike will be branded Dominar 400, there would be another alphabet placed before the 400 model designation. However, it will not be in line with the Pulsar series - AS, NS, RS (and not VS or CS as previously conjectured).
The new tourer is a bike Bajaj has worked on for some time now. This bike was first shown as the CS concept under the Pulsar banner at the 2014 Auto Expo. It was earlier this year that the management at Bajaj decided to create another brand and move the new model away from the Pulsar umbrella. At the time the name being discussed was VS or Vantage Sport, but that was quickly overtaken by the Kratos moniker.
The Dominar 400 Will Not Carry A VS or CS Badge As Previously Conjectured
The God of War that it was named for was meant to signify power. However, the reason for yet another change in the name is that the name Kratos was found to be registered by another homegrown automotive brand. Even though that company is not using the name (and doesn't intend to), Bajaj was unable to procure rights to the name.
Dominar comes from the word 'dominate' and the -ar suffix is a homage to the Pulsar legend. Bajaj will now have a family of bikes under the Dominar brand - just as it has in the past with Pulsar, Discover, and Avenger - and now will with the V brand too. How many members the Dominar family gets will depend on how the brand does for Bajaj in the future. The 400 will launch by mid-December and the only real reason for the delay is not on account of the product (which has been ready to roll out for some time) but due to the branding related issues. Dominar though now stands confirmed and will be the final name that will hit the market.
