Maruti Suzuki has been testing the new generation of its Alto entry hatchback for a while now. Now pictures of the undisguised car have surfaced revealing part of the hatchback’s design and two exterior colour options. The hatchback was reportedly participating in the shoot of a commercial suggesting that it will not be long before Maruti could commences teasing its new entry hatchback. Reports suggest that the new model could launch in India sometime next month with the carmaker also likely to revive the larger hearted K10 model as well.
Starting with the design, the Alto will follow Maruti’s latest design direction that we saw with the new Celerio. As per spy pictures the design is more rounded than the current Alto. The undisguised image of the car provides a clearer look of the rear revealing design elements such as a prominent haunch, tail-lamps that look similar in design to the Celerio and a more sculpted tailgate as compared to the flat and upright unit from the current model. The glass house too appears to be larger. The wheel covers on the cars suggest that these could be the top models with lower variants likely to feature exposed steel wheels like on the current car.
The cabin too is expected to be all-new as well though few details are available. Expect the top models to get some bells and whistles such as Maruti’s 7.0-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system as seen on the current model.
The new Alto is expected to be based on Maruti’s new Heartect platform and is said to be larger than the outgoing model. On the powertrain front, the current 799cc, unit from the Alto is expected to be carried over to the new model. Reports also suggest that the K10 variant that was dropped in 2020 could also make a return with the new 1.0-litre DualJet engine sitting under the bonnet. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard with an AMT gearbox option also likely.
The new Alto is set to go up against the likes of the Renault Kwid in the entry hatchback segment.
