Snapped in northern Sweden was the EQ C, the first model to be released under the Mercedes EQ brand name. Mercedes-Benz is going full throttle on their new electric vehicle architecture, called EVA, for its four upcoming electric car models from the new EQ range. EVA is based on Mercedes' Modular Rear Architecture platform, which debuted with the C-Class model in 2014. It will be able to contain a battery pack of 400 kg which will supply electrons to either a 300 kW rear-mounted engine or a 150 kW front-mounted motor. Adaptive suspension, regenerative braking and e-torque vectoring will be available on all EQ models.

It's a large GLS-type SUV - but smaller models and different types of bodies will most likely follow. All will have an improved energy recovery system and Mercedes aims to sell 20,000 units per model with an average starting price of 95,000 Euros.
Currently Tesla remains the top-player in the EV market. In 2015 the group reached its objective and sold 50,000 Tesla models S. Mercedes-Benz aims clearly to outperform on Tesla and become the EV leader through its EVA platform.

A big project of 2 billion Euros supports this objective. This "New Electric Vehicle" project involves building an additional China-only battery electric vehicle by 2020. The prototype snapped close to the Arctic Circle clearly shows the huge battery packs placed underneath the cabin.
