The future of mobility is upgrading to vehicles that have zero carbon footprint and after battery electric vehicles, it's hydrogen fuel cell cars that are likely to dominate. Prominent automakers like Toyota, Hyundai and BMW among others have already moved in this direction and now even Pininfarina has joined the fray. Pininfarina has unveiled its brand-new hydrogen-powered SUV and the model has been developed in partnership with NamX- an African-European industrial and technological venture. The SUV will be designed by Pininfarina and NamX will take care of its mechnaicals. It will be partially powered by a patented removable tank system allowing home deliveries and a tank change in seconds, in a bid to provide better flexibility and instant accessibility to the owner.
The Pininfarina SUV has a very crossover like stance and the production version is likely to look almost identical.
The final production version of the Pininfarina SUV will be offered in two configurations. The entry-level, rear-wheel-drive version will belt out around 300 bhp with a top-speed of 200 kmph and will do the 0-100 sprint in in 6.5 seconds. Then, there will be an all-wheel-drive (AWD) GTH trim that will churn out around 550 bhp with a top-speed of 250 kmph, while doing the same 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.5 seconds.
The Pininfarina SUV will be offered in two variants.
In terms of looks, the Pininfarina SUV has a very crossover like stance and the production version is likely to look almost identical. The upright front end, a long hood, and a steep windshield that flows into the sloping roof give it a very elegant silhouette and the X motif outlining the grille is seen on the profile as well.
Pininfarina will design the vehicle and it will be partially powered by a patented removable tank system.
The new Pininfarina SUV will make its first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show and it will enter development in 2023. NamX is yet to specify the target markets for the SUV, however, limited hydrogen fuelling infrastructure and restriction on removable tank system in some countries could limit its market reach.
