After the introduction of Mercedes-Benz in 1886, hundreds and thousands of companies have tried capturing the market like this beauty but most of them failed miserably. Karl Benz, a famous automaker, built his first car ever in 1885 and soon applied for a patent on January 29, 1886. Though this car was first called "Patent Motorwagen," the name "Mercedes" was adopted decades later, in 1901.

This Mercedes car, owned by Karl Benz, had its unique features. It ran on three wheels and a 0.75 hp 954 cc single-cylinder engine that grabbed the most attention. A few months after its launch, in 1886, one of the leading newspapers reported the Mercedes-Benz as Model No.1 after its first public outing.

In today's era, Rolls-Royce is a legendary car known for its advanced features and luxurious feel. Going back to the days when it was launched, this brand finds its roots in Henry Royce's electrical and mechanical business that later transformed into a car manufacturing company in 1906.

Engineer Henry Royce built his first-ever car in 1904, before he met Charles Rolls, a wealthy aristocrat. This unplanned meeting turned into a robust partnership on the day when Rolls stated that he would happily take all these cars if his name were added to it. The deal was pretty satisfying, and Royce made his decision. In December 1904, the first Rolls-Royce was on the streets with a two-cylinder 1,809cc engine. After the success of Rolls-Royce, they began manufacturing their first car in 1906.
Another great invention that brought a revolution in the automobile industry and people's life is the inauguration of the Maruti 800 in India, which was launched in 1983 by then Prime Minister Mrs. Indra Gandhi. Over the years, this car truly changed the pace of the automotive industry and is still a part of endless families in India.

When it was first launched, about 28 lakh Maruti 800s were produced, out of which 26 lakh were sold in India. In the beginning, it was reportedly priced at Rs. 47,500; however, the air-conditioned deluxe cars were priced at Rs. 70,000. The first-ever Maruti 800 was handed over by Mrs. Indra Gandhi to Mr. Harpal Singh as he won the ownership rights in a lucky draw.

Another great invention by the Ford Motor Company was the Model A that came into existence in 1903. By the end of October 1904, 670 units were already made, which was quite impressive for the time. Henry Ford, the great-grandson of Bill Ford Junior, the famous automaker, bought the world's oldest edition of Model A for $264,000 (nearly Rs. 2 Cr).
