Renault Captur, the much awaited crossover from French carmaker is all set to make its India debut later this week, on September 21. It's the first all-new product from Renault India post the launch of the Kwid and thus a very important one. The carmaker will start the official bookings for the Renault Captur post its debut on September 22, across all Renault showrooms in India. The company is yet to announce the launch date for the car, but we expect the Captur to go on sale in India in October 2017, possibly before Diwali.

Under the hood, the upcoming Renault Captur will receive the same engine options as the Duster - a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The petrol version in the Duster makes about 105 bhp and 142 Nm of peak torque while mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional CVT unit. On the other hand, the diesel engine comes in two states of tune - 79 bhp and 108 bhp, although we believe the Renault Captur will get the latter version only. Transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed manual and Renault's EasyR AMT gearbox.

Renault Captur is based on the same platform at the Renault Duster

The new Renault Captur is based on the same platform that underpins the Renault Duster but visually it largely resembles the European Captur. Having said that, the India-spec Captur will be larger than its European counterpart and will have a decent degree of localisation, which will further go on to increase in the future. Up front, the Renault Captur will come with an chrome aggressive grille, sweptback headlamps equipped with projector lamps, C-shaped LED DRLs, and wide bumper. The profile gets black cladding on the lower section, while the 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels look really sharp on the SUV.
On the features front, the new Renault Captur offers a bunch of modern equipment package with features like keyless entry, ignition and locking for all versions, Media Nav system with multimedia functions, complete with a seven-inch touchscreen display, a radio and Bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming and hands-free use of mobile phones.
Once launched, the new Renault Captur will go up against the likes of Hyundai Creta and the newly launched Jeep Compass and event he Mahindra XUV500. While official pricing will be announced during the launch, we expect the pricing for the Captur to start at Rs. 11 lakh to Rs. 16 lakh or so (ex-showroom).
