Mahindra Scorpio-N bookings opened online on July 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM, and within a minute, the SUV bagged as many as 25,000 bookings. Within the first 30 minutes, Mahindra managed to garner over 1 lakh bookings for the Scorpio-N, setting a new record. However, during the initial minutes, Mahindra's payment getaway partner suffered a glitch, not allowing several customers to complete their bookings. What Mahindra called a “brief glitch” reportedly lasted for over 10 minutes, raising concern in the minds of customers, as not only did they wanted to jump the queue to receive their SUVs in time, but they also wanted to avail the introductory prices which are restricted to only the first 25,000 bookings.

In its press release announcing the booking figures, Mahindra stated that the “time stamp prior to payment is duly recorded on the booking platform, so each customer will have their rightful place in the order sequence and accordingly the first 25,000 will be considered for introductory prices based on this sequence”. Despite this, many customers were concerned by the fact that their bookings were not completed in time for the introductory prices, and took twitter to ask Anand Mahindra to extend the introductory prices. Replying to this, Anand Mahindra tweeted, “From our press release. And I add my reassurance: There was a brief glitch with the payment gateway provider. We assure all customers that their time stamp prior to payment is duly recorded, so each customer will have their rightful place in the order sequence...”, reassuring all the customers who were affected from this glitch.
The Mahindra Scorpio-N has received an overwhelming response from the Indian crowd, and according to Mahindra, the Scorpio-N could even outsell the more premium and tech loaded XUV700. While the company has now garnered over 1 lakh bookings for the newly launched SUV, it is still struggling to meet the demand for the Thar and XUV700, and increasing waiting periods may put off several customers. The shortage of semiconductor chip supply due to the Covid-19 pandemic has been one of the key factors due to lower production volumes, and with Mahindra's ‘Born Electric’ range soon to make its debut, the Indian manufacturer will have to increase its production capacity in order to meet the demand.
