The results for the 2022 World Car Awards have been officially announced for every category, and the winner in the World Urban Car Of The Year category is none other than, the Toyota Yaris Cross, beating the likes of Opel Mokka and the Made-in-India Volkswagen Taigun. A jury of 102 international automotive journalists from 33 countries selected the finalists by a secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their professional work. Other cars that did not make the cut in the top 3 were Dacia Sandero, and the Made-In-India Renault Kiger.

The criteria are simple, eligible vehicles must be produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units/year and must be on sale in at least two major markets either China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, and the USA, or should have a presence on at least two separate continents between January 1, 2021, to March 30, 2022. The other condition is that the vehicle must be a maximum of 4.3 metre in overall length and be approved for operation on public roads.
