Harley-Davidson has pulled the wraps off the new Nightster, a new Sportster from the American manufacturer. The new Harley-Davidson Nightster is powered by the 975 cc liquid-cooled Revolution Max engine and will be positioned below the Sportster S in the brand's line-up. Compared to the Sportster S though, the Nightster gets a more traditional appearance inspired by the classic air-cooled Sportsters. Notable bits include chopped fenders, a round air intake cover, a walnut-shaped fuel tank and twin rear shocks. However, there are plenty of modern bits too.

It gets a smaller bore and stroke of 97 mm and 66 mm respectively. The DOHC unit uses hydraulic lifters on all four valves per cylinder with variable valve timing. The engine has been tuned for more torque and develops 90 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 95 Nm of peak torque available at 5,000 rpm. The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slip clutch.

The bike also comes with three riding modes - Sport, Road and Rain. Each mode accordingly changes the engine mapping, braking, ABS and traction control on the motorcycle. There's also a drag-torque slip control system that adjusts torque delivery to avoid excessive rear wheel slip during gear changes and in slippery conditions. Compared to the Sportster S, the Nightster is significantly lighter with a kerb weight of 218 kg.
Sales for the Nightster will begin soon in the US and the model is likely to make its way to the Indian market as well
Other cycle parts include 41mm Showa dual bending valve telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. The bike gets a single axially-mounted four-piston caliper and a 320 mm front disc and a single-piston caliper and a 260 mm rear disc. The Harley Nightster rides on a 19-inch cast-aluminium front and 16-inch rear wheel. Sales for the Nightster will begin soon in the US and the model is likely to make its way to the Indian market as well. However, a timeline for the launch is yet to be revealed.
