The world's largest carmaker isn't Ford, Toyota or General Motors. It is in fact, Hot Wheels. And although the toy manufacturing giant might not make cars big enough for us to drive around in, they do make cars that make even the most grown up men (and women) pretend to drive around in. And this is why Hot Wheels has one of the biggest cult following and one of the largest network of collectors in the world. And now Hot Wheels has announced that it will bring two special model cars that will be made specially for the upcoming 2018 Indian Auto Expo. While this is a prevalent practice globally, this is the first time the toy maker will launch a special car for the Indian Auto Expo.

While it would have been absolutely fantastic if the two cars that Hot Wheels brought to India would have been something with a ton of Indian heritage, the toy maker will instead bring something more familiar to its image. In design sketches that have been released, the two cars are in fact American muscle cars one in a modern rendition and the other in classic form. While the modern version features aero mods including a large front splitter and a bootlid mounted wing, the classic versions seems to have been modelled after a classic Pontiac Trans-Am but with squared off headlamps. The classic muscle car also features the legendary and very iconic flame paintjob.

We do hope that Mattel sells these cars - along with others at the Indian Auto Expo in order to attract both serious collectors and general public who enjoy these tiny cars. As we mentioned earlier though, special model cars to celebrate an international Auto Show isn't a new feature. Fellow 1:64 scale model maker Tomica has been making special models for the Tokyo Motor Show since we can remember.

That said we do hope Hot Wheels has special packaging and special graphics on the cards for these two cars they sell. And while it seems unlikely, we can only hope that Hot Wheels will in the future make 1:64 scale models of Indian cars - especially from Indian manufacturers like Tata Motors or Mahindra. We also hope these two cars that come to the Indian auto expo are made in mainline, TH (treasure hunt) and STH (super treasure hunt) versions.
